In the recent bidding for the migration of the city’s computers to Linux, choosing Debian (as opposed to SuSE, RedHat) as the base distribution was awarded “advantage points” for higher vendor independence. (and as you might have heard, the winning bid used Debian)

I think this again supports Debians non-profit model. On the long run, we might want to include “templates’ for such scenarios in Debian itself; again not to “harm” those companies who offer such solutions, but to provide a common platform to build upon.
