The only really bad product of IBM that I know is their Thinkpad MultiBurner. But I’m pretty sure they have a new version by now.

Directing the complaints to IBM isn’t really fair: Its just a Matshita DVD-RAM UJ-810 in a thinkpad ultrabay housing.

Well, you’re probably going to ask me, what I have to complain about. Well, dozens of things. First of all, the drive doesn’t read DVD+R. There is no firmware update available to achieve this. Secondly, my drive was broken after some time (“focus servo error”) even though I had not burned 5 DVDs with it yet, and it took ages to get it replaced. And on the third hand: It doesn’t like the Memorex 8x DVD-R discs I just bought… :-(

So in short: it doesn’t read, it doesn’t write and it breaks easily. What does it actually do? ;-)

Unfortunately I’ve only got USB 1 ports, so an external DVD writer isn’t really an option for me either. :-(
